ELA Map meet World

Building and launching Energy Location Atlas

This morning I got up in the dark, made coffee, and watched the sun rise over the Sangre de Cristos with my laptop open to a map of the world.

At 6:18 the Sun and Jupiter merged at the same degree of Leo. It’s called a cazimi, the heart of the Sun, and it happens with Jupiter once a year, for a few hours. This one was exact to a fraction of an arcsecond. And at that exact minute, the rising lines of the Sun and Jupiter ran directly over Santa Fe. Over this town. Over the room I was sitting in. On the opposite horizon, the Moon and Pluto were setting together in the west.

I know all of this because the app I’ve spent the last year and a half building crunched the numbers straight from nasa jet propulsion library, projected it with painstaking accuracy on an interactive and illegent map. And at that minute, I deleted the password and waitlist opening the doors on the project.

I want to be real about how strange that felt. Not just to have a long standing project emerge energetically from the temple, but that - while we aimed for the cazimi day, it wasn’t until this morning where we decided to look at the exact time. When we opened ELA and saw that the literal rising and setting focal points of these major celestial bodies dancing in space crossed over out exact location during the launch. ELA Map is always showing, and teaching us stuff even when we least expect.

A year and half or so ago in Boquete Panama with my partner Alison this project began, a lowly git hub repo and a magnanimous intention and plan. There were rewrites and dead ends and long stretches of building something nobody could see yet between then and now. There was a moment (people who build things will recognize it) where the honest question was not “will this be good” but “will this ever be done.”

The immennse difficultly of building a project like this isn’t something I could have fully groked as I initiated this project listening to the birds in the Central American breeze. Little did I know that building a accurate, fast, compliant, useful astrocartography workspace for Astrology and Human Design would require building a nasa grade ephmeris in Go from scratch or months of fine tuning map projections, or the months more writting and compiling a rich library of meaning to be drawn from. Nor could you tell me how much I would learn, about the skills and tools for building software and streategic systems of course but also about myself. All the steps troubles and success matter, all contribute to and grow this project. Each piece absolutely neccesary as the intertion is for this to be the people’s workspace, accurate, real, reliable, not a sloppy scammy experience but a tool to unlock personalized, localized knowledge to help people related deeper to wherever they are.

What kept me going was simple and a little stubborn: the tools for this work were stuck decades in the past or obviously lacking and sloppy, and the question they serve *where should I be?* one of the biggest questions a person ever asks. Every line of every chart on the map is someone’s maybe. Someone’s almost-moved. Someone’s what-if city.
That became even more profound as for my family as the “I” in “where should I be?” is very emphatically a “we”. And no tools existed to support us.
The real depth of ELA was grounded, life is relational. To people, to self, to place, loose one and the tirangle looses integrity.
ELA (Energy Location Atlas) is a peronalized geographic intellegence tool that is build from the ground up to work for more than one.
That deserved real engineering. Real dedication and certainty. Real late nights pushing through the problem. Real astronomy- computed to the arcsecond, wrapped in something beautiful enough to sit with. Beautiful enough and simple enough to lend a life jacket of understanding in the sea of complicated ideas and information that is astrocartography. Yet deep enough to give real meaningful value.

So that’s what we made. ELA Map: astrocartography and Human Design cartography on one living globe. Your personalized geographic intellegence engine, the best place to access locational astorlogy insight for you and those around you.
As of this morning it belongs to everyone.

The project grew and soon had a voice, feelings and intentions of it’s own, showing us tools and capabilities that still wow me. We’ve defined a world by bringing real tools t the growing art of locational Human Design. Plotted hermetic lots on the globe, seen where fixed stars are overhead and how geography, weather and more influence your chart as the world.
You won’t find a shallow paywalled app here. This is a massively powerful workspace that can power a professional practice just as comfortably as provide simple powerful daily insight and tools to explore and make use of this powerful practice at any skill level.

The Moon-Pluto setting in the west this morning felt like permission to put down the building years. The cazimi rising in the east felt like the answer to a question I’ve been asking the sky for a long time. Expand, transform, be abundant.
